3M™ Mercury Vapour, Chlorine or Sulfur Dioxide Gas Cartridge 6009S is designed to provide respiratory protection from mercury vapour or chlorine and certain particulates at concentrations up to 10 times the Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL) with 3M™ Half Facepiece Respirators, or 50 times PEL with 3M™ Full Facepieces Respirators.
 
3M™ Mercury Vapour, Chlorine or Sulfur Dioxide Gas Cartridge 6009S utilizes sorbent material, typically activated carbon, to filter the gas or vapour molecules. Different chemical treatments may also be added to the surface of the activated carbon to adsorb different types of gases or vapours. When the cartridges reach their capacity, the gases or vapours start to come through the cartridge to the user. This is called “breakthrough.” The service life of the 3M™ Mercury Vapour, Chlorine or Sulfur Dioxide Gas Cartridge, 6009S is affected by many factors such as the: contaminant, contaminant concentration, breathing rate, humidity level, temperature and other use conditions.
